EU Data Retention Directive
Following the introduction of the EU Data Retention Directive, internet and communications service providers now need to collect and retain records of their customers’ communications for up to two years. Even a small telephony provider can generate 100million traffic records a day and storing these for twenty-four months implies a repository of 72 thousand million (72 Bn) records.
The Data Retention Directive applies both to domestic communications providers as well as foreign service providers calling into an EU member state. As the data collected must be segregated for regulatory compliance, there can be no commercial spin-offs for service providers.
Using its experience of building call data record (CDR) repositories over more than ten years for several key telecommunications providers, Logica has developed a solution that is extremely cost effective for the largest service providers to the smallest MVNOs to comply with the EU data retention directive.
