Logica EMO - FAQS

General

What is Logica EMO?

What does Logica EMO consist of?

What is OBU?

In a journey, can Logica EMO tell me where & why my carbon footprint was high?

Can Logica EMO give me recommendations based on my driving pattern?

Can Logica EMO help me improve mileage?

What does Logica EMO give me that other devices do not?

Mileage is based on many factors (driving behaviour, fuel quality, vehicle condition, road condition, traffic congestion, terrain etc). The last three are not in my control. I’ve tried hard but my carbon footprint is not reducing. Is it because I am still not driving well or is it because of the factors beyond my control? Can Logica EMO give me the answer?

Is my privacy at stake when I use Logica EMO?

What is Differential Fuel Pricing?

What is Logica Green Index?

General

Logica EMO is a sustainability offering which enables real-time monitoring of vehicular carbon footprint. It is an innovative driving pattern monitoring solution from Logica that:
  • Captures vehicle carbon footprint in real-time, under actual driving conditions
  • Enables continuous monitoring of carbon footprint of the entire fleet
  • Provides feedback on driving pattern of different drivers
  • Provides a mechanism to offer incentives to greener driving behaviour vis-a-vis the polluting ones
The Logica EMO hardware fit in the vehicle is called the on-board unit or OBU. Its memory stores the carbon footprint data, while it wirelessly transmits the records to the back-end server.

Logica EMO consists of the following components:
  • Logica EMO On-Board Unit, OBU
  • Logica EMO Back-end server
Yes, the Logica EMO data can help identify the reason for a high carbon footprint- whether its due to the vehicle or because of rash driving.

Yes. Logica EMO can give driving related recommendations as per real time data and your past driving behaviour.

Since Logica EMO helps in improving driving behaviour, it helps in saving fuel and improves mileage. Our research shows a significant improvement in driving behaviour and reduction of as much as 12% in fuel consumption.

Logica EMO makes it cheaper for drivers to turn green than not to. It facilitates differential fuel pricing, rewarding green drivers with lower fuel price. The solution combines creative use of technology with innovation in business model and progressive policy-making, to play a critical role in reducing carbon footprint and CO2 levels in the air.

All the above parameters impact the reading of Logica EMO. Yet, if the reading remains constant despite following the best driving practices, vehicle maintenance and usage of good quality fuel, then it has to be due to factors such as road condition, traffic congestion or driving terrain. In such cases, Logica EMO can be integrated with other devices such as GPS, accelerometer, etc.  to provide comprehensive reports that can identify the cause of the problem.

No. Logica EMO does not transfer any other data related to the vehicle or driver, except for real-time driving behaviour. The data transfer happens in an encrypted manner, further ensuring complete confidentiality.

Differential Fuel Pricing is a unique concept coined by us. This means, a person pays for fuel based on the carbon footprint generated by the vehicle and his driving style. The higher a person’s green quotient, the more advantages he gets, in terms of reduced fuel prices and surcharge waivers. This concept can be extended to other areas such as toll or parking charges as well.

The Logica EMO Green Index is a rating system that is based on a vehicle’s carbon footprint. The higher the Green Index, the better driver a person is. This index can be used to derive Differential Fuel Pricing.

OBU

Each OBU identifies the vehicle by the vehicle identification number (VIN). It can be used for only one vehicle. Any attempt to uninstall the device, activates an alert transmitted to the back-end, reporting the incident.

Yes, it can be used by fleet companies. For more information, please contact us at spark@logica.com

Yes, this is possible. As technology undergoes more developments, we could have versions of Logica EMO specific to vehicle type as well.

No. It’s not required.

Logica EMO Data

Logica EMO data represents real-time carbon footprints of the vehicle and so can be used to make people aware of their driving behaviour and motivate them to adopt green driving. The data can create innumerable business opportunities to increase profitability for stakeholders. It can be used to frame company policies.

For example, Oil companies can use it to incentivise the consumers who drive more fuel efficiently by providing green points.Fleet companies can use the data to reduce costs by tying the low-carbon footprint driving to performance of the drivers etc.  Logica EMO is a useful tool to help reduce global carbon footprint caused due to vehicular pollution.

Logica EMO calculates the Green Index of the driver i.e. (rating from 1 to 10, 10 being the highest) based on various driving behaviour-
  • Excessive RPM
  • Speed and traction control
  • Driving in right gear
  • Way to accelerate
  • Way to brake
  • Manoeuvrability
A comprehensive report is then provided to the driver providing feedback based on the driving behaviour also providing information on CO2 emissions. The Feedback report also includes GPS location (if desired), idling time, harsh accelerations, harsh braking and over speeding information.
The data transfer happens automatically to the back-end without any inconvenience to the driver. The driver has no control over the data transmission.
