Logica I can help

We all know that our emergency services can be stretched from time to time. So, with so many of us with first aid experience, couldn’t we help people in an emergency? If only we knew where the emergency was, and how we could help.

Logica has devised ‘Logica I can help'.

I am FlorencePerhaps you’re a first aider, or a student with medical training, then you can download the ‘Logica I can help app’ and register your levels of experience. You will receive the app for your smartphone, so your location can be found and you can receive messages on the incidents in your area.

When someone has an accident they,or someone on their behalf, will call I am Florence the emergency services. The call handler/dispatcher will then be able to see where the accident is, how many registered ‘helpers’ are within a radius, and what type of incident they are capable of handling.

I am FlorenceThe dispatcher will then be able to send an alert to the appropriate ‘helpers’. A ‘someone needs help’ message will appear on your mobile phone, asking if you can help. Using the navigational functionalities of the smartphone, a map shows the quickest route to the emergency. It will also provide the location of the nearest emergency equipment around the city, for example defibulator and oxygen. You can then respond to the emergency.

The critical thing in any emergency is the speed of response. If people I am Florencenearby know they are needed, then lives can be saved. It allows citizens to become someone’s guardian angel, while engaging with society and helping the overstretched emergency services. Surely there can be no better feeling than that?

‘Logica I can help’ has been built using Microsoft Azure, Visual Studio, Microsoft Azure SQL and Microsoft Datamarkets. Logica will also be able to support clients through the range of issues associated with building such a scheme, for example registering the levels of medical experience, legal requirements, regional set ups etc. A demonstration is now available so trials can start with public health emergency services.
