Getting about the greener way
As a people business, commuting and business travel makes up two thirds of our company’s carbon emissions. 83% of our people believe it’s important that Logica takes an active role in reducing its own impact, and that of its clients, on the environment.
We always look for new ways to help our people get about that have a lower impact on the environment. We reduced our electricity consumption by about 1.5% in 2011 and air travel in H2 was 20% less compared to H1 in 2011. Our energy management solutions are bringing benefits to clients by raising engagement in energy reduction through real-time feedback.
Through our travel policy, we encourage people to think twice before travelling, remind them about alternatives, such as video or tele-conferencing, and encourage people to use public transport. This helped keep carbon emission unchanged in 2011.
- Sweden, the Netherlands and Germany have introduced energy labels and a cap on CO₂ emissions per km.
- The Netherlands ran a competition where the most fuel-efficient drivers were rewarded.
- In 2011, the Netherlands showcased the benefits of electric vehicles (EV), ahead of a pilot planned for March 2012.
- France continues to reimburse 100% of people’s costs when they commute on public transport. Only 50% of car travel costs are reimbursed when public transport could have been used instead.
- France is also experimenting with car-pooling solutions in their Nantes office. Over 500 employees and subcontractors work in the office, but there are only enough car parking spaces for half of them. By reserving 11 spaces for car-poolers and promoting car-pooling through a web tool matching cars with passengers; 31 employees now regularly car pool.
