Logica and Microsoft SQL Server 2012 to Turn Big Data into Competitive Advantage

31 January 2012

Logica, a leading business and technology service company, today announced that it is extending its already successful relationship with Microsoft to help clients turn Big Data into competitive advantage through Business Intelligence (BI).

In a rapidly changing market where businesses need to be agile and consumers have a wealth of information at their fingertips, analysing data has never been more important to gain competitive advantage.

Whether clients want to use data to predict their customer behaviour, detect fraud, monitor huge amounts of sensor generated data or simply better understand how their business is operating, it is vital to unlock the insight and business value hidden in all the available data. With eighty (80) percent of data in an unstructured state and the fact that the total volume of data is expected to double every three years, traditional data warehouse (DW), analytics and BI tools are not enough.

Logica is a key partner for Microsoft SQL Server 2012’s new BI and data warehousing solutions, which include a new BI version of the SQL Server and new high performance appliances for Big Data. Microsoft is extending its product leadership in data warehousing, BI and performance management.

Amanda Mesler, CEO Business Consulting at Logica said,

“We are really excited to announce this next phase of our strategic relationship with Microsoft as it will drive significant value for our clients.  To remain competitive, businesses need access to the right information at the right time in a format which will enable them to make the right decisions. By combining our knowledge of the industries they operate in, our BI Framework and the Microsoft backbone of data warehousing and processing we believe our relationship will deliver real value and enable clients to make the most of Big Data. A clear demonstration of how Logica is creating sustainable ecosystems for our clients.”

Logica, working with Microsoft, will offer the Microsoft SQL Server Parallel Data Warehouse (PDW) and other appliances, in addition to our existing BI, DW and Performance Management solutions, to organisations with an ambition to monetise Big Data by improving business and customer insight.

It’s not just data that will drive growth for clients.

If they were to combine data with insight into consumer behaviour around their brand they could use this to provide the best experience and improve profitability.  This is what Logica’s Applied Customer Insight proposition is developed to do.  Consumers are engaging in social networks, reading blogs, using comparison sites, accessing youtube videos, looking at ratings and searching for information about products and brands. To be able monetize all these traces of data, the first step is to gain insights to predict customer behaviour, track sentiment and brand perceptions and combine this understanding with insights from internal sources such as CRM, ERP, company intranets and websites, and legacy systems.  The new Microsoft roadmap for Big Data is a vital part of delivering Applied Customer Insight, and the benefits to our clients of this relationship are higher performance, shorter time to market, lower risks and a lower total cost of ownership than with competitive products.

Mark Hill, VP of Enterprise Partners at Microsoft, said,

"With the ever increasing amount of data generated around the world every day, large scale data management and analysis has become a critical business requirement in enterprises of all sizes. Logica has identified a great opportunity to extend its BI offerings and consultancy by using the latest Microsoft technology. We look forward to working with Logica to offer innovative BI services and solutions to our customers to help them get the best value out of their data.”
