ISS Sweden is a subsidiary of the worldwide ISS Group and is Sweden’s largest service company with 12,000 employees. ISS Sweden’s operations involve a number of service areas, such as facility management, property services, food and beverage, housekeeping, office services and traffic services.
As a worldwide Group, ISS requires a user-friendly and flexible e-mail system that supports simplified procedures and facilitates day-to-day activities.
The challenge
While Microsoft Exchange was the obvious choice for ISS Sweden, the major decision involved whether to choose a hosted or online solution. After some deliberation, the subsidiary in Sweden, as the second country after Ireland, decided to deploy Microsoft Exchange in a cloud-computing capacity.
ISS Sweden required a partner to implement the project of migrating data from the older Notes/Domino system. Since the company already had positive experiences from collaborating with Logica on two earlier projects, Logica was once again chosen as the partner for this project.
Our answer
Because a considerable amount of data from the Notes/Domino system co-existed in a
number of user accounts, all of the accounts had to be migrated in a single operation to
ensure that functionality would not be adversely affected. To avoid disrupting day-to-day operations, Logica opted to migrate all of the data to Microsoft Exchange over a weekend.
By switching to an online solution, ISS Sweden now only pay for licenses per user and only for specific resources used, rather than a fixed monthly rate, as was the case earlier. The ambition is that ISS subsidiaries in all countries will be able to share the cloud-computing system in the future, and solutions are currently being assessed to see how this might work.
A success story
Logica’s undertaking to perform the migration of data over a weekend avoided disruptions to the company’s operations and the move proceeded smoothly. By switching to Microsoft Exchange, ISS Sweden has benefited from simplified procedures, cost savings and a flexible payment model that facilitates its day-to-day work.
