Logica EMO used to judge major sports event

Our carbon emission monitoring solution, Logica EMO, used to score drivers in all-women rally

The 22nd edition of Rallye Aicha des Gazelles, the all-women rally to promote greener way of driving, concluded in style on 30 March, 2012. The rallye revved up in Morocco on 21 March, 2012 with some thrilling action amidst tough terrains of the Moroccan deserts clubbed with extreme weather conditions. It was a 10-day celebration of action and eco-conscious driving from contestants all around the world. With participants coming from more than 33 diverse countries, the buzz and excitement that Rallye created was unparalleled.

The Rallye is the first major sports event  in the world to consider CO2 emissions as part of their scoring system. Unlike other racing events, the winner of this competition is the team that completes the Rallye in the shortest distance possible and not the fastest time. This is why Rallye teamed up with Logica to install Logica’s award winning emissions monitoring solution, Logica EMO. This is the third year in a row Rallye cars have used Logica EMO.

Logica EMO is an efficient and reliable system that wirelessly monitors and reports the carbon footprint and driving characteristics of a vehicle in real-time. Using Logica EMO, it becomes easier for teams to assess their driving behavior and improve it to become more eco-friendly. After all, cutting CO2 emissions is not just about choosing greener fuels or driving fuel efficient cars (though that’s part of it). It is also about changing the way you drive.

Last year, Logica EMO helped Rallye cut emissions by 10.5% and saved more than 1.5 tonnes of carbon. This year, Logica EMO reduced emissions by 12% and saved 1.86 tonnes of carbon. The solution was installed on 71 participating vehicles of the rally. Logica EMO scores were used to not only identify the most eco conscious driver but also to judge the race itself!

After 10 days of spectacular action amidst arid desert terrains and extreme weather conditions, the teams that beat all the odds to grace the top steps on the podium are:

In the 4x4 category

Amy Lerner and Tricia Reina from the USA

In the Crossover category

Marie Le Neillon Quesseveur from France and Susanne Ehmer from Germany
