The BMW Group is the leading manufacturer of premium products and services for individual mobility with several national and international locations. In such a company the bar is set high for the requirements of managing secure IT systems. Therefore, administration and implementation of security concepts has to be improved on an ongoing basis.

The Challenge
The goal of the project IdAS (Identity and Access Management System) was to have access rights assigned in a much more efficient way through. Prior to the implementation of IdAS, access rights were assigned separately for the various systems and user types. All processes were to be merged and standardised in a centralised system.

Our Answer
Logica has made a company-wide identity and access solution a reality, integrating this system into the existing IT landscape.

The new system is one of the largest projects in identity and access management in Germany at both the process and user level – IdAS supports more than 200,000 IT users and models over a thousand roles with permission processes and complex dependencies. The system automatically responds to changes in associated databases and provides full functionality in security and service management.

Logica’s experts have realised the company’s technical requirements within the scope of a detailed IT concept. The technical implementation of permission processes is one of the more complex aspects of this task as such processes can be started from various roles or initiated using data from the HR systems. A wide array of alternative actions is provided for this purpose.

A Success story
The entire system has already been implemented for the first roll-out phase with full functionality.

Starting at implementation, Logica will undertake the tasks of support and necessary further developments to IdAS during the stabilisation phase.

Users and IT administrations both enjoy the benefits of IdAS: Users are assigned new access rights in addition to a user name and log-in for all systems according to their role profile within just a few hours. Based on the user profile, it is immediately clear which systems and access rights are necessary.
