‘Sense and Predict’ technologies
‘Sense and predict’ is about analysing present and historical data to predict the future outcome. Predictive analytics digs out information in databases. It uses technology to look for developing trends in markets or patterns.
The three steps to sense and predict technology are to:
- Gather appropriate data from a variety of sources including the internet, mobile networks, sensors,GPS and the organisation
- Analyse the data to anticipate the future
- Respond to information with the appropriate actions
Such predictions will be made possible through converged technologies that consolidate multiple functions. This convergence will bring together advancements in computing, embedded systems and communication technologies.
New age utilities
As sustainability becomes a big driving factor the whole utility eco-system will work collaboratively. Consumers will control their consumption pattern and become co-producers. We will see implementation by ‘participation’ rather than ‘enforcement’. We can look forward to new-age utilities that work on a circular flow approach.

Gesture and context aware computing will not be limited to commercial uses. It will extend into our homes and personal lives. With these technologies you will be able to manage your home lighting without walking from one corner of the room to the other. You will be able to switch on the central heating system without going to the basement. Your gestures and the context in which they are applied will do the work.
