The Need
The objective is to provide vastly improved self-service capabilities. This would be through a Microsoft SharePoint 2010 based customer extranet with integrated InfoPath forms to support online sales orders.
The Challenge
What difference would ordering online make?
As it turns out, the difference can be radical and transform the way things work for an organisation. Here’s why. Let’s consider a large organisation where orders are processed through spread sheets that customers send to their sales representative by email. Fulfilment manually enters order information from spread sheets into SAP systems. Manual intervention can result in errors with customers’ orders. Also, fulfilment may not receive an email with a customer order. This could lead to confusion and delays. Customers have no way to validate and track their orders, and no way to view their order history.
Here’s how the transformation begins. With the Customer Extranet Sales Order Form, customers enter orders in an online form. Here, they can choose from pre-populated options and are less likely to fill out item information incorrectly. Customers can also save and edit orders before they submit for final purchase. When a customer submits an order, fulfilment can confirm the order and place it in a queue for processing. Customers can view their order status through a company’s extranet, and also review their order history, which makes it easier for them to place future orders.
