Capgemini and Logica to optimize materials management and logistics of Dutch defense forces in support of international operations
Ministry of Defense grants follow-up assignment for the expansion of SAP-systems
The Dutch Ministry of Defense has selected a consortium of Capgemini Nederland B.V (“Capgemini”), subsidiary of the Capgemini Group, one of the world’s foremost providers of consulting, technology and outsourcing services, and Logica, a leading IT and business services company, to further improve materials management and logistics of international operations. For this purpose the consortium will redesign complex processes around materials management and logistics and translate these designs into a SAP-based system. In addition, the consortium will further expand previously delivered SAP modules and train employees of IVENT, the Ministry of Defense’s own IT-organization functionality, to run existing SAP systems. The contract has a value in the range of tens of millions of Euros.
The new assignment of the Dutch Ministry of Defense is a follow-up to a previous assignment granted to the consortium as part of the Strategic Process and Enabled Reengineering-program (SPEER). SPEER is designed to standardize processes and integrate department procedures across the Dutch Ministry of Defense organization. The program focuses on improving the planning, maintenance and ordnance logistics of the Dutch armed forces. Additionally SPEER supports the creation of a new governance model and the management of information.
Stanislas Cozon, Global Leader of public sector at Capgemini and Haye Mensonides, managing director Public Sector Logica: “The transformation and IT-program SPEER has an enormous impact on the Ministry of Defense’s organization. Therefore it can be counted as one of the major programs of the Dutch public sector. Capgemini and Logica are very proud of this follow-up assignment in the SPEER-program. We are looking forward to achieve yet another milestone together.”
In June 2003, the Dutch Ministry of Defense signed the SPEER framework agreement with a consortium of Capgemini and Logica to be its strategic partner in this transformation process for integrated operational management and information provision.
The consortium had already delivered the fundamental building blocks for the Finance and the Logistics domains. These building blocks form the basis for the actual realization of the functionality in both finance and logistics. In June 2008, Capgemini and Logica also successfully delivered the complete functionality of SAP FINAD for the Finance domain. According to this new contract, the consortium will provide support to the additional development of SAP functionality for materials management and logistics, the so-called Kernel 2.
