Nottinghamshire County Council to save £5m a year through new shared services business system

06 December 2010

Logica, a business consulting and technology service company, today announced that it has been awarded a contract to transform the business support processes of Nottinghamshire County Council. The contract worth £7.4 million over five years will see Logica work with the Council to implement internal shared services using Logica’s unique Local Government Framework approach.  SAP ERP will enable support functions such as HR, payroll, finance and procurement to be run with greater efficiency and provide a better service to managers and staff delivering Council services.

As part of the Council’s drive to save £150 million in the next three years the Logica implementation will radically improve management and efficiency of business systems. The Council needs to replace an aging payroll and finance system whilst overhauling support and reporting processes.  Logica will be supporting this transformation using the experience it has gained from fourteen previous successful Local Government implementations.

The eighteen month Business Management System programme, the first phase of which will go live in October 2011, is a vital foundation for the Council’s cost cutting transformation programme.  The Logica contract is set to save the Council £47 million over the next ten years and provide a return on investment within three years.

Tim Gregory, Director of Corporate Resources at Nottinghamshire County Council, said, “As part of our work to transform our business as well as cut costs we were looking for a supplier to provide us with a best practice implementation. This was not about reinventing the wheel; instead it was about delivering proven efficiencies and value to the residents and businesses of Nottinghamshire.”

As the sole contractor on this initiative Logica will provide a team of 25-30 people to work alongside the Council’s own team to deliver this programme and transfer  skills to the Council’s own staff in line with the Council’s desire to become self sufficient.

Phil Barnett, Logica’s Head of Local Government, commented, “This contract reinforces Logica’s leadership in Local Government solutions and shared services. Our deep understanding of the issues involved coupled with the wealth of experience from previous programmes means that we are seen as a trusted partner for business transformation programmes such as this.”
