The Finnish Defence Forces and Logica Sign Agreement for Administrative IT Services

13 May 2011

The Finnish Defence Forces (FDF) and Logica, a leading business and technology service company, signed a purchase agreement on the procurement of administrative information management environment (HALNET) services for the Defence Forces in Helsinki on 13 May 2011. The agreement was signed by the Finnish Defence Forces' Assistant Chief of Staff C4 Brigadier General Kari Salmi and Heikki Nikku, CEO, Logica Finland.

Through the HALNET environment, the Defence Forces' personnel, conscripts, reservists and partners will have access to IT and information system services required for administrative tasks.

The agreement covers workstations, servers and internal data centre telecommunication connections, information systems and software plus their hardware environments. This involves a change of operational practices in FDF, where services previously delivered inhouse will be delivered as a service purchased from Logica. The aim is that in 2016, the Defence Forces will only be producing information system services in support of operational leadership for itself. Other services will be purchased either as security network services or as other other joint administrative solutions.

The agreement will enable the Finnish Defence Forces to shift the focus of its information and IT services staff to operational leadership support. It will also help the FDF to meet its productivity goals.
