Chris Schotanus attends 2012 Testing & Finance conference

This year for the first time Testing & Finance took place in London and not in the area of Frankfurt. Compared to earlier versions of this conference, it seemed a little less crowded. I expect that this was caused by the new location rather that by the program, which as ever focussed on software quality in the finance area. The theme of the conference was "Testing and Finance in Agile Projects, Social Media and Regulation" and the program was diverse. There were good keynote speakers like Daryl Elfield from Deutsche Bank about how to set up a centre of practice at DB and Paul Gerrard from UK about the future of testing. The presentations too were of good informative level and it was good to see that two people presented on the use of Logica's methods RRBT and TestFrame.

In case you missed it, I presented a slidedeck entitled “Help! My supplier works agile and I don’t”

Chris C. SchotanusWithout a well organised user/developer relationship the chance of delivering the right applications is low.

As we know from experience, it is hard to define all the user needs and business requirements upfront. A solution for the communication issue can be to apply agile development; key users from the client participate in the development by the supplier. However in general the financial institutions do not work agile. My presentation discusses this phenomenon and gives suggestions on how to deal with it.

All in all at least the first day was a useful conference day that mainly focused on the business side of software quality. During the breaks we had plenty of time to meet interesting people.
