Intelligent Transport Systems could clear the Middle East’s blocked roadways
Logica sponsors 2nd ITS Middle East Conference,
14-15 April 2008 in Manama, Bahrain
Intelligent transport systems (ITS), which deploy advanced technology to better control the flow of traffic on the roads, could offer vital relief for the Middle East’s crowded cities and highways. This year’s ITS Middle East Conference brings together some of the world’s leading experts in dynamic traffic management, e-ticketing, road charging and other measures used to reduce congestion, improve safety, and increase efficiency.
Silver sponsor Logica, a leading IT and business services company, which is involved in a number of high profile ITS projects in the region and in Europe, is showcasing its innovation and deployment of large scale intelligent transport systems (ITS) at the event. Two senior ITS experts from Logica will present new thought leadership with focus on the deployment and opportunities of such systems.
Cees de Wijs, Group Director Transport at Logica, and Bjorn Eklund, Senior Consultant at Logica, will be speaking at the event on the topics of “Navigating towards Accelerated Deployment and Sustainable Mobility” (15th April: session 1D, 11:00am-12:30pm) and “Architectural Approaches to New Solutions for Traffic Information Exchange” (15th April: session 2C, 9:00am-10:30am).
“The Middle East is a rapidly growing market for large deployments of Intelligent Transport Systems. This conference is an important opportunity to share information with interested parties in the Middle East about some of the advances in technology and planning processes that are enabling cities to manage traffic levels more effectively,” said Cees de Wijs, Group Director Transport, Logica.
Rising traffic levels and over-stressed transportation infrastructures are creating a number of issues in major cities like Riyadh, Dubai and Manama. The next decade will also see an exponential growth of freight transport and a strong increase in passenger transportation which will increase the challenge even further. In addition, large numbers of vehicles on the road at peak times will drive greater consumption of fossil fuels, which increases the risk of damage to the environment.
