“If you asked five different Logica people to do something, they would all use the same processes and achieve the same high standard. Their consistency is a huge asset and it makes my job much easier,” says Domain Manager

About the Bank
In today’s globalised financial services market, business growth often means international expansion.

One European bank became a global operator through a successful program of acquisitions and investments. Now a European leader in financial services, they are still growing rapidly and plan to double their Net Bank Income for emerging markets in two years.

Like most banks, they are also looking for ways of cutting costs. The end game is to thrive in a tough market that’s still recovering from the worldwide financial crisis.

The Challenge
The bank was aiming to transform itself from a group of regionally focused companies into a truly global organisation. This meant taking a new approach to IT services by concentrating certain projects in dedicated service centres. The bank wanted to:

  • Create teams of experts, using common tools and methodologies, to deliver solutions for the global operation
  • Cut costs and increase efficiency, by enabling IT tasks to be carried out once instead of many times.
  • Speed up time to market on new banking products and services.

Our Answer
The bank started building up a network of IT service centres. And they chose us as one of their top three multinational partners.

Then, after a competitive tender, we won a five-year contract from the bank’s retail division. Our brief was to develop and support software applications supporting five important activities:

  • Securities services offered by the bank to its retail customers
  • Account management, including generating statements
  • Online banking capabilities
  • Master Data Management (MDM)
  • Business Process Management (BPM), workflow integration and automation using common tools.

A Success Story
Service levels are getting better, thanks to a more centralised, flexible approach. Bringing resources together makes it easier to set procedures for software development and testing, and stick to them. That means we’re well placed to meet the bank’s production timescales and quality standards. It also takes us less time to fix any problems that come up once an application has gone live.

“We can ramp up projects very rapidly using Logica’s resources, and we sleep well at night because we know Logica is running our applications,” the Domain Manager explains. “If there’s a problem – for example, a bug that could stop 40,000 people from working – I know that Logica people are fixing it the minute it appears.”

The bank benefits from all these activities, and they’re very pleased with our approach. “If you asked five different Logica people to do something, they would all use the same processes and achieve the same high standard,” the Domain Manager explains. “Their consistency is a huge asset and it makes my job much easier.”
