Fuel Cards

We just have to look around to see how payment and loyalty cards have taken an increasing role in the way we purchase goods and services, and they will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.

One example of this is fuel cards which have been around for over 40 years now. Oil companies have in many ways been leading the industry in specialty payment cards, principally because they have been the most internationally oriented companies and therefore among the first to face the challenge of cross border (credit based) payment and customer value propositions (CVP’s).

In the last decade oil companies have invested heavily in bringing their transaction capturing and authorisation on-line. Initially, this was to combat fraud, but they quickly realised and leveraged the wider benefits..

There are well over 30 million active B2B Fuel Cards in Europe alone. At Logica, we’ve been involved with providing Cards and Payment solutions for around four decades. In the past, this involvement was in providing customers with project based expertise and in building and supporting their proprietary systems. But increasingly our clients have wanted this delivered as a product or a managed service.

Logica offers secure Fuel Card acceptance through pan-European on-line authorisation as a managed service, taking away the management overhead and up-front capital expenditure otherwise required.

We’ve developed Fuel Card issuing solutions for two of the largest oil majors and are delivering the WM-Card solution to many country based retailers. Helping to reduce operational costs, we have built online presence for an oil major’s global fuel card business to drive the development of their customer offer.

And our very own industry leading Payment Settlement system is used by many leading banks. In fact, our systems transfer the equivalent of the USA’s annual GDP - every day.
