eCounting for Scottish local government success

In 2012, the Scottish local government elections were hailed as the most efficient and transparent on record after a special ‘eCounting’ system provided by Logica, now part of CGI successfully delivered a result under the Single Transferrable Vote mechanism.

Scottish Government and all involved wanted to make the Single Transferrable Vote system as efficient as possible. We developed a very robust plan to ensure the count went smoothly and the public had confidence that their vote has been counted properly.

The result was a solution that delivered the results on time. It demonstrated that the hard work, detailed planning, training and testing we undertook was worth it to achieve project success. The success of this vote was down to the close collaboration of Logica’s teams with local councils, the Scottish Government, Returning Officers and our technology partner Opt2vote.
