Logica shortlisted for EHI Award for support to Defence Medical Services
Logica, a leading business and technology service company, today announced that it has been shortlisted for the prestigious EHealth Insider Award for its work with the UK MOD’s Defence Medical Services. It is profiled in the Excellence in Major IT Healthcare IT Development category for its Defence Medical Information Capability Programme which provides a single, integrated medical and dental record for all MOD personnel and their dependants.
The UK MOD’s Defence Medical Services (DMS) has the challenging task of providing primary, intermediate, secondary (on operations) and dental healthcare to all members of the armed forces. Whether they are based in the UK or abroad, on board ship or on deployment overseas, DMS is responsible for their health and wellbeing and for ensuring their fitness for duty.
The Logica system is based on the EMIS PCS application and supports DMS staff in both fixed and deployed environments (including ships). DMS clinicians and dentists at fixed bases in the UK and Europe access a centrally hosted system whilst deployed medics accompanying troops on deployment (or on ships) use local application instances running on ruggedised laptops and servers. Updates to patient records are synchronised between fixed and deployed systems using SATCOM data links ensuring that up-to-date clinical records are accessible worldwide. In addition, the secondary care Whole Hospital Information System (WHIS), based on System C’s Medway package, operates in Afghanistan, providing services to one of the world’s busiest trauma units.
