Burgernet

Burgernet in action

This video shows Burgernet in action which is a fast, secure 2-way communication between the police control room and 35,000 community volunteers using text, voice, IM and email.

The police contact citizens with a description of a suspect via SMS, and if citizens have relevant information they phone the Burgernet number ( the police control room) which identifies the person and their location.

By communicating directly with local citizens police officers can be directed faster, more precisely and be better prepared with additional information gained from citizens 'on the spot'.

They have found missing persons, stolen cars and arrested suspects as they are committing the crime. Citizens are keen to participate and confidence in the police has increased.
