Logica Sweden signs outsourcing agreement with SMHI

20 June 2012

Logica Sweden, a leading IT and business services provider has won a contract with the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) to manage part of their IT operations. The five-year contract is worth approximately SEK 50 million (GBP 4.5 million).

Under the Swedish Administrative Services Agency's framework agreement, Logica will take over responsibility for the operation of Windows servers, workstations and the service desk. The transition from SMHI's internal IT department will begin in autumn 2012. Delivery will be from Logica's data centre and from SMHI's offices in Norrköping.

Håkan Borg, IT Director at SMHI says, “Our IT infrastructure must always work. All of Sweden is to varying degrees dependent on the information that we provide - some for a trip and others to ensure security or good planning. Logica met the requirements in our contract very well, and we now look forward to a fruitful collaboration.”

Bengt-Goran Kangas, Managing Director of Public Sector at Logica in Sweden says, “SMHI has an important social function in supplying weather forecasts around the clock, all year round. To have an effective and efficient IT operation is extremely important for SMHI. Logica has extensive experience in delivering outsourcing services to clients in the public sector and we look forward to working with SMHI to support and simplify the way it undertakes its core business of delivering forecasts and decision support to people and businesses that depend on weather, water and climate.”
