Logica EMO - Towards a greener future

Travel and transport by road are an essential part of today’s economy. It touches our lives, in some form or the other, every day. In the off-season fruits we relish, that are transported from across state borders, to the vehicles we drive, that are transported from the manufacturing hubs to city showrooms.

But with all its importance in place, vehicular transport and travel does impact the environment with the release of harmful gasses and pollution in the air. We can’t do away with travelling altogether, and we can’t overnight adopt green technology. But, what we can do is change our driving behaviour by adopting fuel efficient practices that help keep the air we breathe clean

Our solution Logica EMO (pronounced ëm´-oh ), helps in doing just that. It is a safe, efficient and reliable system that wirelessly monitors and reports the carbon footprint of a vehicle in real-time.

In doing so, it, feeds back on a person’s driving style. And so, helps one drive more fuel efficiently and reduces carbon footprint while helping save on fuel and maintenance expenses that come with rash driving.

In other words, Logica EMO helps people take the green route.

The larger aim is to help people become aware of the impact their driving practices can have on the environment, and ultimately on their pockets. Logica EMO achieves this through its concept of Differential Fuel Pricing. This means you pay more or less for the same fuel, depending on your driving behavior.

Why Logica EMO?

Logica EMO allows monitoring and reporting of a vehicle’s carbon footprint in real-time. A rating system, based on these records, called the Logica EMO Green Index, is calculated at the back-end. The Index can be used in different business cases based on Differential Fuel Pricing – a unique concept coined by us. This means, a person pays for fuel based on the carbon footprint generated by the vehicle and his driving style. The higher the green index, the better driver a person is, and the more advantages he gets, even in terms of surcharge waivers or reduced toll or parking charges.

Simply put, it becomes cheaper for a driver to be green, than not to.

This way, drivers are motivated to check their driving pattern in order to get the advantages others derive just by driving more fuel efficiently. This also offers an innovative business model for governments and others in the eco-system to come up with progressive policies.

Advantage Logica EMO

One can only enumerate the substantial impact Logica EMO can have on a spectrum of stakeholders, with its multi-pronged approach. These include state governments, regulatory bodies, fleet companies and oil companies.

  • Regulatory bodies can compute and levy fuel tax as per the vehicle usage. This means, a person driving inefficiently, ultimately needs to analyse and change his driving behaviour if he wants to enjoy the tax benefits other, more efficient drivers enjoy
  • On a macro level, governments benefit from being able to manage fuel consumption and trade effectively. Changes in taxation polices could also be extended to toll, congestion and parking on the basis of Logica EMO Green Index which acts as a repository of individual driving behaviour
  • As for oil companies, the solution goes a long way in helping them build better good will, as they, in tandem with governments, enable differential fuel pricing. They can do so by providing loyalty points based on a vehicle’s green points as per the driving pattern of the individual
  • Automotive Insurance companies can use this data, and classify drivers as risky and non-risky and so decide different premiums
  • Fleet companies can use this information doubly, as they can monitor their drivers, and in turn, the mileage and rate of vehicle depreciation. This way they can train errant drivers and ensure that they get optimum ROI from their fleets
  • The real-time data captured by Logica EMO forms a good source of statistical information that can be used to devise a host of incentive schemes, policies, regulations and other strategies aimed at promoting the cause of greener environment
