Logica’s renewable energy management system (RMS) was selected for top honors in innovation at the North American Renewable Energy World Conference & Expo in Tampa, Florida March 8-10.

Renewable Energy World Network editors chose Logica’s RMS as the winner of this year’s Excellence in Renewable Energy Award for Innovation in Technology. The innovation award recognizes cutting-edge projects, people, and technologies in four clean energy industry sectors. (To see a short video on all four winners, click here.)

RMS provides a scalable platform to support the business needs of operators with a large portfolio of wind energy production. Unlike most systems, RMS can control and manage all major turbine types for centralized command and control. RMS is a fundamental building block that facilitates increasing levels of wind energy production on the grid. The solution interfaces with production forecasting, energy trading, metering, maintenance, and workforce management systems.

It was deployed for Horizon Wind Energy in North America last year where minimized downtime, enhanced grid reliability, and optimized output through centralized wind energy dispatch. Horizon Wind Energy is based in Houston and owned by EDP Renewables, a subsidiary of EDP. The company operates 27 wind farms with 1,900 turbines across North America. Logica North America supported the implementation at Horizon with infrastructure expertise and deployment resources.

Editors from the Renewable Energy World network chose 11 award winners from nearly 600 submissions. The annual Renewable Energy World Conference features hundreds of exhibitors and presentations on wind, solar, biomass, hydro, geothermal, ocean/tidal/wave, bio-power, bio-fuels, and hydrogen energy.
